I'm always awed by how truly terrible Jewish history is! At what point would you say the 'modern' concept of anti semitism arose. By that I mean a Jew being considered Jewish because of his descendency rather than religion. So that even if he were to convert he would still be considered 'less than'

This is without a doubt something that arose and was popularized in the 19th century with the rise of “racial science”, and the concept of nationalism and ethnicity coming at the forefront of the European mind instead of the previous brotherhood that was based on religion and community first and foremost.

Prior to this, the Jew who converted was celebrated. Afterwards, a Jew who had been baptized was just a wet Jew to the ethnic European.
